How should believers face suffering? Why do we suffer? If you are a child of the Lord, then it’s likely that you will be called on to suffer for His sake. Are you ready? Regardless of what you think may happen this year or in the near future, we all agree that the world is becoming increasingly corrupt. What will you do if that day comes that you have to die for your faith? 

You need the grace and peace of our Lord. Grace is God’s unmerited favor toward us and it is the divine enabling that He grants to those who have yielded to His Lordship. Peter mentions grace 10 times in this epistle. Moreover, not only does Peter want believers to be given grace, but he also wants them to have peace. Why? Because these readers would need an abundance of both as they go through intense suffering and persecution.

As 1 Peter teaches us about the fiery trials Christians must face, let’s commit ourselves to be With the Master in the Fiery Furnace!

Susan J. Heck was married for 46 years to her beloved husband and pastor, Doug Heck, who was a faithful Shepherd for 50 years. For 40 years, she has been involved in women's ministry, including teaching Bible Studies, discipleship, counseling, and heading up Ladies with the Master women's ministry at Grace Community Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Susan is a certified counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors.
